Shopping for a newborn girl usually ends in one of two places. A pile of pink, or a neutral so safe it looks like everything else on the gift table. The 3 Little Crowns range sits between the two. The pink here is dusty and soft rather than bright, and it sits alongside oat, ivory, mushroom and coco, so a gift can lean feminine without committing entirely to it.
Choosing A Gift For A Baby Girl Without Defaulting To Pink
Parents of newborn girls receive more pink than they want, and almost all of it arrives in the same fortnight. Grandmothers buy pink because it reads as celebratory. Friends buy neutral because they are not sure what the parents like. The result is a wardrobe that swings between the two with nothing in the middle.
The gifts that stand out are the ones with texture or shape doing the work instead of colour. A chunky knit in oat photographs better than a pink jersey onesie and gets worn for longer, because it does not clash with whatever else the baby is wearing. Anyone buying for a girl whose parents have a clear aesthetic is usually safer in the neutrals than in the pink.
The exception is the gift meant to feel like a gift. A pink piece on a gift table is unmistakably for her, and sometimes that is the point.
Where The Pink Sits In This Range
The pink runs across four pieces, which is deliberate. There is a knitted romper, textured knit booties, a topknot, and the flower chunky knit jumper, which carries the only floral in the catalogue.
Kept to a handful of pieces, the pink works as an accent rather than a theme. A pink topknot over an oat romper reads as considered. A pink romper, pink booties and a pink topknot together reads as a costume. Mixing one pink piece into neutrals is the way the range is designed to be worn, and it is also how it photographs best.
Topknots Are The Piece Nobody Thinks To Buy
Topknots are the most distinctly girl item in the range and the one parents rarely buy for themselves. They sit at the bottom of the price list, they appear in more newborn photographs than any other accessory, and most first-time parents have none until somebody gives them one.
The knitted topknots come in the same colours as the rompers and bodysuits, so one bought on its own still matches whatever the parents already own. They also solve the problem of a small gift that does not look like an afterthought, which is useful for anyone attending a shower where several people are contributing separately.
Coordinated Sets For A Newborn Girl
Sets take the guesswork out of it. The Pretty in Pink set pairs the pink pieces into one outfit. The Little Bloom bundle runs to five pieces and covers more of the wardrobe, which suits a first baby where the parents are starting from nothing. The flutter bum onesie and topknot set in bubblegum is the softest of the pink options and the most gift-like out of the box.
Sets also photograph as a complete look rather than one item surrounded by whatever else was clean. For a baby girl in particular, where the gifts arrive piecemeal and in clashing shades of pink, a coordinated set is the one that gets used for the announcement photo. The fuller range sits in gift packs and bundles.
Comforters And Keepsake Pieces
The Cuddle Me comforters are the gifts that outlast every outfit. The bunny and the flamingo are the two that get chosen most often for girls, though the attachment a baby forms has nothing to do with which animal an adult picked.
For something used on the day rather than afterwards, the announcement plaques work at a shower held before the birth, which most gifts do not. They are also the only item here that ends up framed.
FAQs
What Is A Good Gift For A Newborn Baby Girl?
A knitted piece in 0-3M, a topknot, or a comforter. All three get used, none of them duplicates what everyone else is buying, and all three survive the wash cycle that follows a newborn home.
Does A Baby Girl Gift Have To Be Pink?
No, and the neutrals are often the better choice. Oat, ivory, mushroom and coco suit any nursery, go with whatever the parents already own, and avoid adding to a pile of pink that is usually already large by the time the baby arrives.
What Size Should A Baby Girl Gift Be?
0-3M in most cases. Newborn sizing fits for a matter of weeks and some babies skip it entirely. The Australian baby clothes size chart sets out the weight and length ranges behind each size.
Are Topknots Suitable For A Newborn?
The knitted topknots are a soft stretch band with no hard fastenings, sized for a newborn head. Like any headwear, they are intended for supervised wear while a baby is awake rather than for sleep.
Can A Baby Girl Gift Be Sent Directly To The Parents?
Yes. Orders placed before 2pm are dispatched the same day from the Sydney warehouse, with free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $119 and worldwide delivery available.
